About Metro Heating Cooling
Metro Heating Cooling, Inc. is a Pittsburgh-based family business, founded in 1957 by Bill "W.C." Wessner Sr. The new construction market was booming at the time. Insisting on quality equipment rather than cheap equipment, Bill soon found himself in the replacement market as well.
In 1962, Metro moved to its present location, at the start of Banksville Road. If you've traveled Banksville Road, you've seen our landmark sign, right before Banksville joins the Parkway.
Bill's oldest son, Bill Jr., worked summers with him during high school and college. After four years of teaching manual arts in a High School, Bill Jr. joined with the company permanently in 1970.
Youngest son Tom joined the company after graduation from high school, and has since worked his way to CEO. Both boys have worked their way up from the bottom, starting as delivery men, then helper, mechanic, service and service supervisors.
The Wessners know the business from the bottom up, and maintain a sharp edge by regularly attending service workshops, equipment and design schools, and management schools and seminars. They are all active in their local trade association, Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA). Bill Jr. and Sr. both served as past Presidents of the organization.
Sons Bill and Tom share the responsibility of managing the company, and are directly involved with all aspects of sales, service, installation and design.
METRO presently employees 13 people, consisting of bookkeeping, service and dispatch, technicians, installers, and helpers. Bill still delivers.
Although METRO serves predominately the residential market, they frequently do commercial installations, including large boilers for apartments, and other building and roof top gas and electric air conditioning systems.
The main part of METRO's business is service, installation and replacement of furnace and air conditioning systems. METRO places an emphasis on high efficiency heating and cooling equipment, air cleaners, humidifiers, boilers, heat pumps and in floor radiant heating.
METRO can install any brand of equipment. They are not "married" to any manufacturer, but they excel in installation of quality Carrier products, choosing the best product for the specific application at hand.
METRO is very innovative and creative in solving many heating and cooling problems, including "in the floor hot water heat" and "hydronic zone heating" for different temperature requirements in the home or commercial building.
